With the introduction of the “Rural Revitalization Strategy” of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the concept of “Suburban Unit Planning” in Shanghai, the study of rural landscape materials is of great significance to sustainable development and high-quality construction of rural landscapes. This article takes the Reservoir Village of Caojing Town, Jinshan District, Shanghai, as an example. The basic principles of the selection and configuration of rural native plants, through the construction of its vernacular landscape design, discusses how to use plant configurations to reflect the vernacular style’s characteristics and provide strategy for the development of metropolitan, rural landscapes.
