Abstract:In recent years, Adoretus sinicus has gradually become an important pest in agriculture and forest plants. In this paper, we studied the adults’ host preference of Adoretus sinicus to 8 plants in Shanghai and explored adults’ physical control methods. The results showed that adults had the highest preference level on Vitis vinifera followed by Rosa chinensis, Nelumbo nucifera, Wisteria sinensis, Semen Trigonellae The level was lowest on Photinia fraseri and Prunus persica.Adults did't feed on Arachis hypogaea leaves. The results of physical control in laboratory experiments showed that this insect’s food intake decreased obviously under the condition of light. The results of physical control in the field experiment also showed that the number of insects was significantly lower under light than under the condition of darkness. By taking advantage of this feature, light can be used to protect plants and control the insect.
