Abstract:Currently, healing environments have become a prominent topic in spatial and environmental research in China. However, there remains a lack of a clear and comprehensive understanding of the concept. In current domestic research, there is often confusion or misuse of concepts, and a lack of clear recognition of the signifi cant diff erences in the concept of a healing environment between Chinese and English contexts. This paper fi rst analyzes the origins and connotations of four related concepts: healing environments in the English and Chinese contexts, restorative environments, and therapeutic landscapes. Subsequently, it clarifi es the similarities and diff erences among these concepts in terms of historical development, disciplinary backgrounds, target populations, and usage scenarios. Finally, based on existing research results, this study further develops the conceptual framework of healing environments in the Chinese context, proposing that they can be subdivided into eight corresponding intervention approaches. The article aims to promote the standardized use of relevant concepts and assist in the development of research on healing environments in the Chinese context.
